How to clean your accessories?

Lipstick, mascara, foundation, grease stains or even tomato sauce... We imagine you behind your screen thinking about that famous time you stained your favorite Scrunchie (help!). Many of you ask us for advice on how to remove stains from your hair accessories, and it's high time we shared our little grandmother's secrets with you! Because yes, our accessories need to be pampered and can't be treated the same way as regular clothing.

First of all, please note that it is strongly recommended not to machine wash accessories. They need tenderness and delicacy, and prefer your gentle hands to take care of them.

MAKEUP TASKS

FOUNDATION

Whether it's liquid, powder, or stick, foundation saves us from many a bad-looking day (especially in winter)! Until the day our new BB cream gets stained... what a disaster! Here are our tips to save the day that started so badly:

Ammonia: This technique works on a variety of materials, including denim, silk, and synthetics. Gently rub the stain with ammonia to restore its original color.

Talcum powder: It's an essential element in our home and can be used in a thousand and one ways. Here, it will be useful on materials like cotton or linen. Sprinkle the stain and let it sit before dusting off the residue.

A little tip from the Scrunchie team: put on your accessory before applying your makeup.

LIPSTICK

While it can be our best ally in revealing our femininity, it can be our worst nightmare when it accidentally gets on an accessory. A scrunchie on your wrist, a fresh lipstick, and disaster can quickly strike!

Toothpaste: Choose a white toothpaste, without additives so as not to stain the accessory and rub with a toothbrush, rinse and admire the result.

Alcohol and Marseille soap: Gently dab the stain with a cloth soaked in 70% alcohol (obviously, we use the right alcohol haha). For best results, rub with a little Marseille soap.

Baking soda and lemon juice: Sprinkle a little baking soda on the lipstick stain. Dampen a cloth with lemon juice and dab it on the stain. Wipe it with soapy water so as not to damage the fabric with the lemon juice.

Hydrogen peroxide: Using a towel or cotton ball soaked in a few drops of hydrogen peroxide, dab the lipstick stain. Rub the fabric gently in your hands and presto, no one will notice!

Baking soda and white vinegar: Sprinkle baking soda on the stain before dabbing it with a cloth soaked in white vinegar. Gently wash the stained area.

The Scrunchie team's top tip: use a matte lipstick to limit transfer (Mac's Ruby Woo is our favorite).

THE MASCARA

A good cat eye doesn't just require a swipe of mascara. It gives us doe eyes but also cold sweats when it gets on our favorite headband (anything can happen).

Lemon juice and salt: Apply this to the mascara stain and let it sit. Once cleaned, your accessory will regain its full splendor.

Talcum powder: Place the talcum powder on the stain, once removed, remove the talcum powder from the accessory. The stain should absorb most of your mascara.

Makeup remover: As the name suggests, makeup remover removes makeup (really, right?). Rub the stain with it and then rinse the tool.

Soap: Yes, soap cleans mascara stains. Attention, Scrunchie girls, we don't choose just any soap, we prefer Marseille soap. Lightly dampen the stain, apply the soap and let it sit for at least an hour before rinsing.

White vinegar: To avoid damaging the fabric, mix white vinegar with water. Clean the stain with it and that's it!

A little tip from the Scrunchie team: never use waterproof mascara (except in a very hot weather or if you want to seduce the lifeguard at the pool).

FOOD STAINS

Whether it's a Netflix night or a drinks reception with friends, disaster can happen so quickly. A wine stain on your pretty hair bow, a little guacamole on your white scrunchie... it's enough to ruin your cozy moment. Don't panic, we'll give you tips for cleaning it all up:

On a grease stain: Quickly sprinkle the stain with talcum powder or flour and let the fabric absorb it.

On an old stain: Marseille soap is the miracle solution for removing stains accidentally made while watching your favorite series. Simply rub the stain with the soap to create a thin crust. Let it sit for about an hour and rinse. If this step is not enough, you can dab the fabric with hydrogen peroxide.

Little tip from the Scrunchie team: enjoy the moment, a stain is so quickly forgotten! :)

A FOUL SMELL

You've been out on the terrace a little too long... Your accessories smell of cigarettes and you hate it. How do you get rid of the smell?

Air: This technique works in all circumstances: let your accessory air outside. There's nothing better than a breath of fresh air to help it smell fresh again.

Perfume : Once it has aired, we recommend that you perfume your accessory.

A little tip from the Scrunchie team: a few spritzes of our Sacré Coeur perfume and its sweet cotton scent to make it look like new.

THE LAZY GIRL'S TRICK

Lack of time, resources, or even motivation... don't panic, we have the solution (because yes, the Scrunchie team can be lazy sometimes). Supermarkets are full of gems like scarlet water, which neutralizes stains easily and quickly, or the Vanish brand, which sells a range of effective stain removers. However, we prefer to limit industrial and harmful products in favor of natural ones.

And you, do you have any other tips to share with us?
