Summer reading

What's better than a nice glass of rosé on a terrace on a Friday evening ? Surely a book you'll enjoy on a train heading south. Whether you're on your way to your vacation, on a deckchair in the middle of a park , or commuting after a day's work, a book will be your best companion.
We have selected for you our 3 readings for a literary summer !

THE NOSTALGIC

Head to Alabama, along a railroad track, for a nostalgic and touching tale. Each week, Evelyn, a forty-something housewife, visits Ninny, an octogenarian living in a nursing home. Ninny tells stories about her youth at Whistle Stop. Between humor, anecdotes , and life lessons, Fried Green Tomatoes is one of those novels you must read at some point in your life.

" Whenever you don't hear the phone ring, I'll be the one not calling you. " Fanny Flagg has a sense of humor all her own. In addition to the wacky name of her book, humor punctuates the story and makes it absolutely delightful ! It will be the perfect reading companion in a small flowery countryside, protected from the sun by Nicole's boater...

THE CLASSIC

My name is Lolita ... We're not going to make you read the lyrics to this song, but rather read Vladimir Nabokov 's classic . Lolita is the story, like a confession, of Humbert Humbert describing his romantic and sexual relationships with his various lovers, and particularly with Lolita.
A highly descriptive novel that can be seen as trashy or highly sensual. It's also a major reference in popular culture. The term Lolita and what it characterizes didn't come out of nowhere. Serge Gainsbourg, Alizée, and Julien Doré popularized the term and gave it a more subtle and less pejorative character .
A beautiful work, as enjoyable to read as it is enlightening. Take it on the road (so you can brag about it in the middle of the barbecue "did you know the origin of Lolita?") or discreetly place it on a bedside table .

For the more 2.0-minded among you, we offer a cinematic alternative. A work by Stanley Kubrick, starring Sue Lyon, which caused controversy upon its release. Carnal or perverse ? You be the judge.

THE ENTERPRISING ONE

Imagine a dunce who becomes an entrepreneur at the head of an empire. A utopia ? No, this is the story of Sophia Amoruso, creator of the Nasty brand. In Girlboss , we discover the life of Sophia who, after having a troubled start , starts finding vintage clothes to sell on eBay. Eight years later, it's an explosion : a company with 400 employees, 74 million euros on its online site , her name ranked among the richest or most influential people in the world.
Impressive or frightening ? It's up to you , with this read that inspires you to take action... and keep your feet on the ground.

The book got its own Netflix series… which was n't renewed for a second season. Needless to say , it wasn't a great success, but for the curious, it's worth watching ...

Don't forget sunscreen, a bottle of water , and sunglasses... you won't notice the time passing while you're reading, so watch out for a lobster tan !

Have a great holiday in the sun!

See you soon,
