A few weeks ago, the Scrunchie team tried chain stitch embroidery and haven't stopped doing it since!
We love it so much that we use it on all our hair accessories: scrunchies, scarves, headbands, bows, berets! It's an easy way to personalize our accessories with little patterns , words or initials . It's the perfect little touch to give a personalized gift (we tried it and our friends loved it).
This is a great tip that we didn't want to keep to ourselves, so we're offering you a fairly comprehensive little tutorial to explain how to do the chain stitch!
We prefer to warn you that patience is required ;)
The material:
First of all, before learning the chain stitch, you need 5 things: embroidery thread, a needle , a pair of scissors , a special fabric marker (which disappears in the wash or after 24 hours) as well as the accessory or item of clothing that you want to personalize.
You can find thread, felt, and needles on Amazon or in craft stores. Be sure to bring the right embroidery supplies!
Preparation:
Draw the design of your choice on the surface you wish to personalize with the marker.
You need to cut the embroidery thread. The amount you need for an average design is about 30 cm (to ensure you finish the design without having to cut any more thread). The cut must be clean so that you can easily insert the thread into the needle!
Embroidery thread comes in several strands (6 in total). The thicker your embroidery fabric, the more strands you'll need! It's also important to choose the right needle: the more strands, the thicker the needle. For hair accessories, 2 strands are enough.
Before inserting the thread into the needle, you must create a knot at its end to allow the first stitch of the embroidery to hold well.

The chain stitch:
Caution: For all the steps to follow, you must be careful that the needle does not go through the back of the accessory. This is the case for scrunchies and scarves.

The first stitch is always made at the end of the motif. You must stitch in one place and bring the needle out immediately behind (the spacing must be very small).
After bringing the needle out behind the first stitch, come back and stitch in front of the first stitch, then bring it out behind the first stitch.
It is important to pass the needle through the center of the hole formed by the thread in order to make a chain stitch that looks like something. ;)
To make the second chain stitch, you need to insert the needle inside the first stitch and bring the needle out a little bit in front, still inside the hole formed by the thread, then tighten and so on.
It is important to always embroider in the direction of the embroidery to make your task easier! :)
To finish your embroidery, create a knot over your last chain stitch and cut the remaining thread. Also cut the thread from the first stitch you made!
You have to be patient and focused, we recommend you embroider in front of the TV or with background music. :)
